"The UK continues to stand with Ukraine as it defends itself from the attempted invasion by Putin’s regime with his evil actions having the most horrendous of consequences. The government has been very clear that we will not give up until Ukraine’s sovereignty is restored. To help in that effort we’re sending large amounts of defensive military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine as well as coordinating the toughest set of sanctions Russia has ever seen. Putin must fail.
One of the impacts of Putin’s assault on in Ukraine is the instability on energy supply and pricing. Amidst everything else, the impact on energy bills is stark. Which is why the Chancellor has announced a £9bn package of support to help households. Including a £150 council tax discount for those in Bands A to D. Around 80% of all homes in England. East Suffolk Council has also been given a discretionary fund to help lower income households in higher Council Tax bands. The energy regulator Ofgem has also provided comprehensive advice to ensure consumers pay no more than is necessary and are supported by suppliers in any way possible. You can find the advice here - www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/getting-help-if-you-cant-afford-your-energy-bills
It was good to meet the new Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Trust, Tom Abell, at Saxmundham Ambulance Station recently. I’ve previously raised concerns about ambulance response times, particularly in relation to stroke patients, which he is tackling. In fact, there is some great work happening on the frontline such as improvements with hospital handovers, meaning ambulances can get back on the road more quickly – and a recognition of further improvements still to be made in the interests and safety of patients.
Finally, I was pleased to visit the Suffolk Punch Trust in Hollesley last month to see the dedicated work of volunteers and staff who help protect the critically endangered species through its established breeding programme. It's been especially tough for them during lockdown but it's good news that they will be opening to the public again at the beginning of April. Please do pay them a visit."
