Speaking at the Countryside Future Conference yesterday, Environment Secretary and local MP, Therese Coffey launched the government’s new drive to support rural communities.
Therese had a great day visiting the Suffolk Show yesterday, meeting farmers and food producers of all generations. She also took the opportunity to announce more funding for innovative projects, helping agriculture advance for the future.
Therese was pleased to join representatives of Maltesers recently to support their new ‘Let’s Lighten the Load’ campaign designed to support working mums and help women thrive.

Therese has welcomed the Government’s decision to ensure a legal right of free access to cash, particularly important for the elderly and the most vulnerable in our community who frequently use cash as their choice of payment.
Therese has warmly welcomed the statement from the Health Secretary today that the rebuild of the James Paget Hospital in Great Yarmouth will be prioritised as part of the government’s £20bn New Hospital Programme.
As we move into the bathing season, Therese is pleased to report that all the designated bathing waters in Suffolk Coastal have been rated Excellent by the Environment Agency. This includes Southwold The Denes which has improved in classification from Good to Excellent.
Therese has welcomed the good news that seven grassroots sporting facilities in Suffolk Coastal have benefited from £53k worth of government funding to help level up access to sport and to improve mental and physical wellbeing.
This week, the government extended the £2 fare cap, to make sure bus travel remains accessible and affordable for everyone. Therese said: "This is just one of the ways we’re helping ease the burden of the cost of living." More information here.
